Retreatants from Kripalu speak out about their Soft Tissue Approach experience
I had such a wonderful experience at the Soft Tissue Approach to Yoga Retreat. This approach is different than any of the styles of yoga that I have yet encountered and has definitely taken my practice and my mind to a new level. Aside from using lots of fun props to soften our bodies, Madelana gave us techniques to soften our minds as well. We practiced "Doing less", we recaptured a childlike state of mind, we worked with noticing our impulses and choosing which impulse to follow. My personal favorite was the Pratyahara experience - Madelana had a sensory journey laid out for us that, for me, was truly a priceless experience. The Soft Tissue approach gets at some pretty deep mental/emotional stuff as it releases old patterns within the fascia in a deep but gentle way. The retreat slowed me down and left me feeling fully alive and present to the bliss that is available in each moment (if only I could stay in that frame of mind forever:-). Madelana is a gentle and gifted teacher, bringing her unique background of Trager, Thai Bodywork and her innate teaching abilities. I highly recommend to yogis of ALL levels. Amanda
I have always wondered what a trip like this would unfold in me and now I am beginning to find out. I feel that my yoga practice has been taken to a new level and after 10 years on the mat. The first class I took after returning was amazing! I felt my legs working in a new way, really my whole body. I can't put into words what the experience meant to me personally. The personal bonds with the others in our workshop are priceless. I can't wait to do it again! Debby
Thank you for a wonderful week!! I realize that I spend my life gripping my muscles and thinking!!! The last few days have been a big transition, and your words keep coming back to me. You led us on such a wonderful journey and exploration of how the mind and body work together. Thank you for all your kindness and openness. Your presence is so profound and allowed me to relax and detach from the stressful patterns of everyday life and concerns. They haven't gone away, but I've been catching my response to things. It wasn't like relaxation at Kripalu, but I was better able to deal with the "little disasters" of everyday. The things we learned and experienced this week will stay with me for a long time. It was so wonderful to have such a great group of ladies.....usually I'm a loner and hate group activites..., you made it so much fun so that we were able to get in touch with ourselves in different ways: playful, relaxed, working hard and doing less. Thank you for your creativity and warm spirit. Merynda
